In what has the hallmarks of a truly memorable battle, we, FC Denver, 2nd place finalist in Colorado Premier League Fall Season, will battle Indios Denver FC, current 2nd place side in the UPSL Colorado Division, this Saturday with EVERYTHING on the line.

And by everything, we mean the winner will qualify for the US Open Cup, the grandest soccer tournament in our nation. A tournament where amatuer teams, like ours, get the opportunity to play against fellow amatuer, semi-pro, and full professional teams across the entire nation. It’s a remarkable achievement for any amatuer team and just the opportunity to face off against the top competition, pro and amatuer, in the nation is the stuff of dreams.

This match is the third and final round of qualifying. In our first round, we beat GAM United 3-0 in September. Last month, in round two, we beat Fort Collins United 1-0. And here’s we are on the verge of qualifying for the 2018 Edition of the US Open Cup, which begins in May 2018. One more win and we’re in. Indios has a similar task after two Open Cup qualifying wins of their own.

These two teams have played each other in previous years and competitions (including a 3-1 FC Denver win at the Colorado State Cup this Summer), but FC Denver is well aware this is not the same Indios Team they have played previously. Up until this past weekend, Indios were undefeated through 7 weeks of UPSL CO division play and had the top spot in the division until FC Boulder overtook that spot this past weekend. Indios’ attack is what has seen the most marked improvement this season as their goals per game average and score lines reflect. Their games are often multiple goal affairs.

Contrast this to FC Denver’s notoriously stingy defense, which hasn’t allowed a goal in either of the previous Open Cup Qualifying matches, and only let in 10 goals during the entire 9 game CPL season. Something’s got to give as an attack-minded Indios team faces off against a defensive powerhouse FC Denver team.

FC Denver has been organizing and promoting elite amatuer soccer, here in Denver, for almost 12 years and we are hungry to make this our time. Our time to make the national stage. Our time to show fans and soccer supporters in our city and across the nation the pride we have have in our club and our city. It’s our time to qualify for the US Open Cup.

We hold no misconceptions about this being a simple task, as we realize that Indios will be our toughest Open Cup Qualifying competition yet and will be hungry to leave their own mark, but we are focused on ourselves, our team, and we believe it’s our time. We’re focused on Saturday to prove this to our fans and city.
