England failed to impress against minnows Andorra, but thanks to Joe Cole, Capello was saved some embarrassment. England dominated most of the match, but they had no answer for the stingy Andorra defense. Capello might have taken 186th ranked Andorra too lightly and England was booed off the field at the half.
ENTER JOE COLE!!!
Joe Cole came in at the half for Stewart Downing and made an immediate impact. He met a Lampard free kick in the 49th for his first goal, and six minutes later he took a pass from Rooney for his second of the night. The match would end 2-0 for England, but you have to wonder how this team will perform against Croatia on Wednesday.
Joe Cole has been in fantastic form this last month. He scored against Czechs to salvage a tie, and he had a fantastic perfomance, including a goal, for Chelsea in their 4-0 season opening victory against Portsmouth. Even though Cole is playing well, Capello is not completely happy. Although Capello will concede that Joe Cole is scoring at will these days, he vented his frustration about Cole and Rooney’s inability to follow his directions.
Please let me know your thoughts on the game, and on the English squad in general. Are you convinced Capello is the man to get England to the World Cup? Who does or doesn’t deserve another call up?
