The coup of the transfer season has to be Man City’s acquiring of Robinho. Man City’s new owners, Abu Dhabi, out bid Chelsea’s Roman Abromovich to gain the Brazilian’s services. Abu Dhabi are set to make Man City a European power house. Not only has Abromovich lost out on Robinho, but now Man City is the richest club in the world. I’m sure that can’t sit well with the Russian billionaire. Just a few seasons ago his spending power was unmatched and he made no secret that he could get whatever player he desired.
Manchester United finally got their man. Tottenham agreed to sell Berbatov to Manchester United for $55 million. Berbatov was unhappy at Tottenham, so the club had little choice but to sell. With all the activity Tottenham has had in the transfer market this summer, i’m sure the $55 million will go a long way in balancing their books. With Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo, and Berbatov playing up top, Man United look like a team ready to repeat last year’s success.
What do you guys think of how these transfers played out? Personally I’m a little disappointed not to see Robinho with Chelsea. I think the style Scolari is trying to implement at Chelsea would have suited Robinho better.
