FC Denver vs Harpos FC in Newest Edition of the #ColoradoClassico

Two of Colorado’s top soccer programs over the last decade square off Saturday night in Round 1 of 2023 US Open Cup Qualifying. In some ways, it’s unfortunate that only one of these elite programs will continue further in Open Cup qualifying, the top competitive opportunity for elite amateur teams. But that’s good news for fans who get a top quality local qualifier right off the bat.

The history of this fixture is rich with terrific championship battles over the years. Harpos owns a decisive edge in overall results between the sides, but the more recent results gave been more evenly split. Last time we played, Harpos won the Spring 2022 Colorado Super League Championship Match 1-0 over FC Denver.

The winner of this match will need to win three more grueling single-elimination matches against top local and regional competition to qualify for the 2023 US Open Cup proper, but will have already taken out one of it’s main opposition to that goal. Expect a fiery and intense match, as the #ColoradoClassico series always is.
