FCD Summer 2019 Recap
Without league play at FC Denver, Summer can be sometimes be slow. This was absolutely not the case. Three tournaments for our Men’s teams and two tournaments for our Women’s team saw a large amount of character and grit.
State Cup
The Colorado State Cup did not go our way with our Men’s and Women’s teams. Neither team made the finals due to a lack of finishing and organization. A mixture of new faces and cobwebs contributed to the early exits on both sides. State Cup provided us with the wake up call our club needed going into the remaining summer tournaments.
Vail Invitational
We sent 8 FC Denver players, which combined with our US Open Cup players Marco Escobar and Cesar Castillo and their talented Vail Mountain crew to form the Vail Gold squad for the annual Vail Invitational Tournament. With great defense and timely goals we make to the championship game, where we faced off and beat our longtime rivals Harpos FC. The final score was 2-1 and we could not be happier to play with new and old friends for what is truly a landmark Colorado tournament.
International Heritage Cup Denver
This tournament is easily becoming one of our favorite summer cups. A tightly knit community, a combination of multiple cultures, and a wonderful tournament culminate into one hell of a time. Our United squad took the honor of Team USA to compete against various African, Middle Eastern, Central and Southern American nations. Following our win, we were invited to take the field before the Colorado Rapids match against the Montreal Impact. The perfect commemorative piece to an amazing summer at FC Denver.
Updates Ahead Of The Fall Season
With the season a week away, we’ve seen a lot of great young talent already. Building off of this exceptional growth, our Men’s Open 2nd Team (United) will play in the Colorado Super League for the first time this Fall. Our Premier Men’s squad will continue to compete in the most competitive division in Colorado Soccer, the Colorado Premier League. Fall league seasons begin August 25th.
The 2020 Lamar Hunt Open Cup Qualifiers start in September. We are currently ramping up for a historic third consecutive appearance, but we know it won’t be easy. We cannot wait to face the toughest competition in America once again.
