CPL Over 30 Division:
Legends vs Colfax FC (7-0)
•Recap: After a two week hiatus from football, we started off a little slow against a Colfax team that was happy to sit back and defend. After missing a number of early chances, we had to wait to get on the scoreboard until around the 35 min mark. Marco won a tackle, beat a Colfax defender and played Charlie in on a through ball with a finish near post. Shortly there after, Justin played Marco in on a through ball from midfield where Marco beat the keeper and finished far post. Legends took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The second half opened up for Legends, where we controlled position and got on the scoreboard early with us taking a 3-0 lead on a goal from Felipe and an assist from Meza. Soon thereafter, Jeff won a tackle in our defensive half and played Draper in for a 4-0 lead for Legends. The scoring didn’t let up, with further goals from Charlie (assist from Marco), Draper (assist from Felipe), and Felipe (assist from Charlie). Special shout-outs go to our entire back line of Alex, Juan, Jeff and AC for keeping us organized and starting most of our attacks from the back. In addition, Marco had a fantastic game with a goal and 2 assist (should have been 4 or 5 assists if we did a better job finishing).
Next week will be a different game with us taking on Harops OG, but we’ll take the momentum into next Sunday’s showdown and aim to stay top of the table.
•Goals: Charlie (2), Marco, Felipe (2), Eric (2)
•MVP: Our keeper Gabe, for coming up with 3 or 4 big saves after not seeing much action throughout the game.
CPL Women’s League:
FCDW vs AC Legends (3-50)
•Recap: FC Denver Women’s Team had a successful challenge this Sunday, solidifying the first victory of the 2019 Fall Season. Defense Erin, Hannah, Lidia, and Katie moved the ball smoothly and confidently with midfielders Sophia, Jesse, and Tori. Plenty of opportunities were created by our full backs. At minute 15, left full-back Katie Marcheso passes a brilliant ball to attacker Juliana Grover, who then sprinted past AC Legend’s last defender, beat the keeper, and confidently shoots to the corner for the first goal of the match.
Shortly after at minute 18, a beautiful combo play started by Tori Slattery, continued by Cat Devitt, and finalized by Juliana Grover again to cushion us further into the lead at 2-0. Minute 34 saw a foul in the box in FCD’s favor. Alex Laniewski was not shook and with confidence clutched a 3 goal lead via penalty kick.
After 20 minutes of consistency and composure in the second half, a storm called the game with a final score of 3-0.
•Goals: Juliana (2), Alex
•MVP: Katie Marcheso for creating opportunities from the back and dominating on her side. She was fearless in her attacks and consistent in the defense helping the team close out on a clean sheet.
