FCD Fall 2019 Gameweek 3 Recap

FCD vs Harpos

FCD vs Harpos

CPL Premier Division:

Premier vs Harpos (0-4)
Recap: Premier match was to be a preview of next weekends open cup qualifier. It turned out one team was more ready for the game. We started off strong in the first 5-10 minutes but our energy couldn't match what the game needed and Harpos started to press more and often. About 15-20 in they scored a curling shot from 25 out. 5-10 minutes later another driving run led to a nice cross from the end line to the front of the goal for an easy tap in. A bit later some poor defending lead to a pk which was finished for a 0-3 lead at halftime. We knew we need to up the energy and we came out better. Winning some possession and getting more creative and hungry in the offensive half. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find the net. Harpos finished the scoring late in the second half with a cross and header. A disappointing scoreline of 0-4

Colorado Super League:

United vs Legrones (0-1)
Recap: We came out flying and had two great opportunities to get on the board. One off the post and one just past the post would be an ominous sign of things to come. It became a bit of a back and forth game until a few defensive lapses lead to a counter goal for Logrones. Another unfortunate error led to being down 2-0. Another few chances for us including a chip that beat the goalie but a lunging save on the goal line by a Logrones defender stopped that great opportunity. Down 2-0 at halftime, we knew we had to come out strong, and we did. Creating numerous chances that we couldn't find the net. We then earned a pk with some hard work only to have the shot saved. Shortly thereafter Logrones would get a third goal on a counter. We finally pulled one back with a great shot by Fernando M. Again we kept pushing and creating more opportunities than our opponents only to be let down by our finishing. Logrones finished an easy tap in after the crew missed a foul away from the ball to free up the attacker. Final a disappointing 1-4.

Masters vs Rovers Elite (11-0)
Recap: Masters won 11-0 against a 10-man Colorado Rovers Elite, in a match shortened to 55 minutes, to secure a win in its first regular season outing. Ryan Moschel was active early from the left-wing, scoring a hat trick in the first 8 minutes. He would later add a beautifully mishit cross to the far corner to score 4 goals on the day. Derek Moore added a goal in each half and Grahame Fitz made his club debut scoring in each half as well. Brandon Sawada and Peter Marsden also scored first-half goals and Kane Lawson added one in the second half. Nic Wilson filled in admirably in goal for the absent Matt Burford, saving a header off the line late in the match to preserve the shutout.
Goals: Moschel (4), Moore (2), Fitz (2), Sawada, Marsden, Lawson
MVP: Moschel

CPL Over 30 Division:

Legends vs Harpos OG (2-1)
Recap: Both teams were working from less than desirable rosters with both having short benches and missing key players. Harpos came out looking to dominate possession and wear us down as they did in the Spring final. We changed our approach from the Spring and applied pressure to Harpos in their defensive half, which caught Harpos an off-guard and provided Legends with a few early chances on goal that we were unfortunate not to finish. Legends got on the scoreboard in around the 20th minute, with Lio intercepting a pass from the Harpos keeper and then finished nicely (unassisted). The remainder of the first half saw Legends missing multiple chances, and then our defense holding Harpos at bay with just a few opportunities that didn’t cause much concern. Legends went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The second half started off very quickly, with Legends drawing up a playground kickoff play — Lio took the kick-off and passed back to Kyle who played a long ball to Draper who was streaking down the right side of the field. Draper took the ball nicely off his chest and passed to Lio who calmly finished past the Harpos keeper. Needless to say, but Harpos was caught off guard and Legends took a 2-0 lead. In classic Harpos / FCD fashion, the second half was chippy and the tempo picked up with Harpos chasing the game. With about 30 minutes left in the game, Harpos got a generous foul called right outside our box. We won a header off of the cross, but unfortunately, it landed to Harpos’s right back who had a classy upper 90’s finish to bring the game to 2-1. Both teams had good chances in the final 15 minutes of the game, but the game ended 2-1.
Given the numbers of guys Legends had absent this weekend, this was one of our best team efforts we can remember. We were organized and capitalized on the key chances we created.
Goals: Lio (2)
MVP: Our defense of Hunter, Dan, Juan, Jeff, and AC all received man of the match honors — they continue to 1) keep us organized; 2) start the attack from the back; and 3) win almost every 50/50 ball. Well done defense!! And a special shout-out to Lio (Marco’s brother) for coming up big for us!
