Returning Home

It’s all about going home. When we step on the field, we aren’t just athletes and we aren’t just our everyday selves, we get the chance to be more. It’s about returning to, and entering, a space where we are allowed and encouraged to feel limitless. The field provides a space for us to breathe away from the pressures that the rest of our lives provide. While there, we must only focus on the then and now of every moment. It’s all about the touches and passes, the shots and the goals, the camaraderie and community. It’s about the moments within our liminal space. This is where we get to just exist. We come home every time we step on the field. We come home every time we touch a ball. We come home every time we are allowed to be in our universe. The field is where we all spent so much time growing up that it became part of us. Soccer is part of our identity. So when we don our jerseys each week and take the field, we do it with pride and love filling our entirety. And when that first whistle blows, we know that once again we are home.
